For many years, this had been widely cited as the first publication of the treat, even on Wikipedia. Legend has it they were called “some more” because everyone who tried it asked to have some more!

Further research uncovered the earlier 1925 article, but more recently there’s even another potential contender from a book that was published sometime in the 1920’s called A Book of 150 Recipes Prepared with Campfire Marshmallows which references a “graham cracker sandwich” and is the same basic three components of our modern-day s’mores.

While no one knows exactly who made the first s’more, the sweet treat became an instant hit with just about everyone who ever tried it, and it has remained that way ever since! There’s even a National S’mores Day coming up on August 10th to honor this sticky, melty masterpiece.
