Different civilizations had their own approaches to combating their bad breath. In 1498, the Chinese invented the first bristle toothbrushes that used the coarse, stiff hairs found on the necks of pigs. Even Babylonians attempted brushing their teeth with twigs over 5,000 years ago.

Altoids are well-known for creating the very first, modern breath mint as we know them today. That was all the way back in 1781.
